Geneva Rock has verbally informed Draper City it intends to submit an application to change the zoning designation for a portion of its property that is currently zoned Agriculture (A5). The current A5 zoning designation on Geneva’s property does not allow for mineral extraction. It is the city’s understanding that Geneva Rock intends to conduct mineral extraction if the zoning is changed. It is Draper City’s legal obligation to review any zoning change application it receives and process the application in a manner consistent with Utah State law and Draper City codes. If Draper City receives a formal application from Geneva Rock, the city will consider the request through an open and transparent process that ensures the input of its residents is meaningfully considered and balanced with the applicant’s legal rights.Geneva Rock has not yet submitted a zone change application and the details regarding the request have not yet been provided to the city. Once an application has been received, Draper City will provide timely information regarding the request and give the public the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposal. If Geneva Rock files an application requesting a rezone, it will first be reviewed by the Draper City Planning Commission in a public meeting. The planning commission will then forward a positive or negative recommendation to the city council. The city council will consider the request and make a final determination.Opportunities for the public to comment will be available during public hearings at both the planning commission and city council meetings. Draper City has posted a page on the city website (see link below) and a public comment form so that you can submit your questions, comments, and suggestions online. This information moved into a spreadsheet a copy will be provided to Draper City Mayor and City Council members. http://www.draper.ut.us/1349/GenevaTo receive planning commission and/or city council agendas electronically, please sign up at http://www.draper.ut.us/list.aspx.Please contact Maridene Alexander (Public Information Officer) at (801) 576-6518 if you have any questions.
